Update: Tuesday 01 Oct 2013 15:00 BST (UK)
Due to recent closure of US government services - including national parks, monuments and other federally administered lands - a number of Grand American Adventures tours currently in progress will be altered with immediate effect, to spend more time in unaffected areas or take in other nearby attractions.
For clients and tours departing in the coming days, alternative arrangements and options are now in place as follows.
Many tours are unaffected or only slightly impacted by these closures and will continue to run with minor alterations. Itineraries will be amended to visit alternatives such as Lake Tahoe in replacement for Yosemite National Park or by visiting Flagstaff and Sedona instead of The Grand Canyon. Other alternatives may also be available such as Grand Canyon scenic flights or visits to Grand Canyon West - an area administered by the Hualapai Nation.
For tours requiring major changes (>35% of the published itinerary), clients will be offered alternative itineraries visiting state parks, recreational areas and other places of interest. If affected clients are not satisfied with the suggested alternative itineraries, they will be welcome to transfer to future tour of equal or lesser value, or offered a full refund for the unused travel package, including flights if booked through the UK sales office.
As this is a very dynamic situation and liable to change with short notice, Grand American Adventures are monitoring the situation closely, handling each tour on a case-by-case basis, and will be contacting clients affected by major changes due to depart within 72 hours with options and alternatives.
As North America's small group adventure specialist, Grand American Adventures are confident in their ability to provide high quality alternative itineraries and look forward to the opportunity to introduce their clients to the wonders of America far off the typical tourist trail
