Day 1: Boston

Welcome to Boston, the largest city in New England. Boston is awash with things to do, and if you're hoping to combine revolutionary heritage with cobbled streets and one of the best park systems in America then there's no better option on the East Coast. Discover Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, located along the waterfront with plenty of opportunity to eat and shop. Enjoy your chance to explore before you meet your Appalachian Mountain Guides tomorrow at 07:30 hrs, when you'll start your hiking adventure.
Accommodation: Hotel included | Meals: Paid locally

Day 2: White Mountains National Forest - Highland Center at Crawford Notch

This morning you leave Boston for the start of your backcountry walking adventure in the beautiful national forests of the East. You'll meet your Appalachian Mountain Guides and your group and have a welcome meeting, where your guides will brief you on the adventure ahead. After lunch you will enjoy an easy 5km (3 mile) hike which is a great way to get to know your group and stretch your legs, before heading into the stunning White Mountains National Forest.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) | Meals: Dinner included

Day 3: Highland Center

With light packs and a packed lunch, you'll head out for the day on a 10km (6 mile) moderate hike. You'll walk from the Highland Center and loop hike over Mount Webster and Mount Jackson. Upon return to the Highland Center you'll delve into our Hut to Hut itinerary, discussing weather in the White Mountains, gear needs, hut life and trail information.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) | Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 4: Galehead Hut

From here on out, your true backcountry experience begins. Start early with a drive to the Gale River Trailhead and hike up to the Garfield Ridge. Your destination is Galehead Hut (7km/5miles), which is the most remote of the White Mountain huts and boasts stunning views from the porch. After arriving at the hut, the summit of Mount Galehead can be climbed before dinner. As the sun sets in the surreal landscape, prepare yourself and your camera for a stunning sunset.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) | Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 5: Zealand Falls Hut

Today you reach South Twin, a stunning trail but you'll need to be prepared for a steep ascent of 350 metres (1,150 ft.). En route to the next hut you'll scale the trail over Mount Guyot and Mount Zealand. You'll pass lakes on the trail where you might want to take a dip depending on the weather! In the evening you can enjoy talks conducted by the hut hosts who are specialists in the local area, flora and fauna.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 6: Zealand Falls - Highland Center

Today you can relax a little and make the most of the hot showers at the Highland Center. Treat yourself to a well-earned beer or make the most of the short hiking trails in the area.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) | Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 7: Mizpah Hut

Choose to hike one of the oldest maintained trails in the USA, the Crawford Path, or summit some of the 'Southern Presidential Peaks' on the Webster Cliff Trail, part of the official Appalachian Trail. The Crawford Path is a 6.4 mile (10km - 5.5 hours) hike along the Webster Cliff Trail and allows you the opportunity to summit Mount Webster and Mount Jackson.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 8: Lakes of the Clouds Hut

Over the next few days the stunning alpine scenery will leave you awestruck. Today you'll hike to the wonderfully named Lakes of the Clouds Hut. This is the highest hut on the tour and you'll be treated to some amazing views of the Presidential Range. This area can have extreme weather changes and you may experience high wind speeds as you hike through the stunning and rugged terrain. The Webster Cliff Trail goes from the hut up to summit of Mount Clinton. Just beyond the summit, you pick up the Crawford Path to go over Mount Eisenhower, Mount Franklin, and Mount Monroe. In the afternoon you head up to Mount Washington with light packs (2.8 miles / 4.5km - 3 hours).
NB: The entire day from Mount Clinton onward is above the tree line and all summits are weather permitting.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 9: Madison Hut

Hike along the backbone of the Presidential Range and, weather permitting, you'll be in for a real treat. With the opportunity to summit a selection of peaks, make sure you also take the short and easy hike to Star Lake, which offers beautiful reflecting views of Mount Madison.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 10: Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch

This morning you'll have the chance to summit Mount Madison or take a less strenuous route back down. When returning from Mount Madison down the Air Line, you'll enjoy excellent views of King Ravine. Whichever route you take to get back to reality be sure to celebrate with your fellow hikers when you reach your final destination.
Accommodation: Hut accommodation (shared facilities) I Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 11: White Mountains National Forest - Boston

Sadly, the tour ends today and you make your way back to the buzz of Boston city. Founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists, Boston is at the forefront of American history, in particular the country's fight for independence. Events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party played pivotal roles in that struggle and have become part of American Folklore. We recommend adding additional days onto your trip to explore everything that Boston has to offer.
Meals: Breakfast included
