Day 1: Las Vegas & Zion National Park

Leaving the bright lights of Vegas behind, drive northeast for just over three hours into the State of Utah and Zion National Park. Zion Canyon was named by the early Mormon settlers of Utah who thought of it as their 'promised land'. Some of the best hiking in southwest USA can be found here in and around the fertile Virgin River as it meanders below massive, cathedral-like, sandstone walls. With two nights here you will have plenty of time to explore.

Day 2: Zion National Park trails

It's easy to spend a day exploring what Zion has to offer. With plenty of hiking options to choose from, ranging from easy to strenuous. The ambitious walker can choose to ascend 760 metres (2500 feet) to experience unbeatable panoramic views from the top of Angels Landing or you may choose to hike deep into the beautiful Zion Narrows. In The Narrows, dry feet are not an option as you are actually hiking through the Virgin River in between towering walls, and as the day heats up, the cool water and shadows of the canyon can be very pleasant indeed.

Day 3: Bryce Canyon National Park

Not far from Zion is Bryce Canyon National Park, which is definitely worth a visit! Bryce Canyon is a fascinating natural amphitheatre of pink, orange and white sandstone spires, known locally as 'hoodoos'. There are a variety of scenic overlooks and trails that range from easy to moderate in difficulty. The Navajo or Peek-a-Boo Loop trails will enable you to hike right in amongst these unique rock formations. Wherever you walk, you will encounter a kaleidoscope of colours and a fantasy land of rock spires that will leave you searching for your own way to describe this 'indescribable' place.

Day 4: Monument Valley

No visit to Southwest USA can be complete without a visit to Monument Valley, the most majestic and most photographed landscape on earth. A sacred land to the Navajo Nation who call it home, the red sandstone monoliths and spectacular sunsets and sunrises have been the backdrop to countless 'westerns' movies.

Day 5: Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon is on everyone's must do list; this incredible spectacle is difficult to comprehend, even as you stand at the rim or hike down into the canyon. Carved over several millennia, this massive wonder of nature is 445 kilometres (277 miles) long, up to 29 kilometres (18 miles) wide and over 1.6 kilometres (1 mile) deep. We recommend you head to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park, an easily accessible and beautiful part of the canyon.

Day 6: Grand Canyon National Park

There are so many options at the Grand Canyon it's worth spending a day here. You can venture down the Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point, or just stroll along the more leisurely West Rim Trail. There is also a great shuttle bus service that allows you to access different areas of the park. Whatever you do though, make sure you stick around for sunset as the colours of the changing light are out of this world.

Day 7: Hoover Dam & Las Vegas

Travel south to Williams and west to the small roadside town of Seligman along the iconic Route 66, before continuing to see the Hoover Dam and arriving back into Las Vegas. End your road trip with a cruise down the infamous Strip and a visit to one of the world class resort hotels.
