Trip Itinerary
Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, as local and operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, the following itinerary should be used as a guideline.
As day one is an arrivals day you are free to arrive at any time. You will have a welcome meeting at approximately 18:00 this evening where you meet your Tour Leader, fellow travellers and get excited about your up and coming trip. Should you wish to book pre tour accommodation in Havana please don't hesitate to contact us at the time of booking.
Day 1: Havana
Today is an arrivals day and you are free to arrive at any time to your hotel in Havana. The remainder of the day is yours to explore at leisure and make your own impressions of Cuba.

Day 2: Havana
Explore the colourful treasures of old Havana on a guided orientation tour to learn about Cuba's historic past and how it shaped the country you see today. Hear tales about Che Guevara, Fidel Castro and Ernest Hemmingway and the roles they played, some small and others on a grand scale. There are many optional excursions to fill your time in Havana however, a great way to get a feel of the city is to simply roam the streets or kick back in one of the many cafes and absorb a country on the on the cusp of change. In the evening way not take in an optional show at the famed Tropicana night-club which has been described as the most flamboyant in the world. Having opened in 1938, it gives are rare glimpse into the extravagant pre-revolutionary days.

Day 3: Vinales
After breakfast you head towards the lush tropical paradise and World Heritage area of the Vinales Valley, famed for its tobacco plantations. Along the way you pass tall palm trees, cane fields and farmers tending to their crops. Vinales boasts dramatic rolling karsts rising from the ground and lush tobacco plantations with the chance to visit and perhaps sample Cuba's famous cigar.

Day 4: Vinales
Today is a free day for you to explore the wilds of Vinales, a place where time feels like it has stood still. There are various trails to hike with possible sightings of migrating birds, swimming in the natural clear waters of Rio San Juan, or even try your hand at zip-lining over the lake and forest canopy for those seeking more adventure (additional charge).

Day 5: Bay of Pigs - Cienfuegos
Retracing your steps towards Havana and south to the Matanzas province you hit the Zapata Peninsula. This is the perfect location in Cuba to see the Bee Hummingbird - the world's smallest bird in its natural habitat. From here we travel to Cienfuegos stopping en route to see the infamous Bay of Pigs Cross, now a nature reserve whose swamplands are perfect conditions for Cuba's small crocodile, but ultimately made famous by the failed invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs in 1961. After a long day on the road, you arrive into Cienfuegos where, after checking into the hotel there may be free time to explore the Paseo del Prado with the locals.

Day 6: Santa Clara - Sierra Escambray
You may want to explore the many beautiful colonial buildings which remain intact in the old city such as the Tomas Terry Theatre. Drive to historic Santa Clara, the site of the first battle of the revolution and the final resting place of Che. Although Che fiercely fought for Cuba's independence he was actually of Argentinean descent. Here you visit Che Guevara's Mausoleum and museum before a short drive into the Sierra de Escambray, Cuba's second highest mountain range.
Blessed with high rainfall and coolness these are perfect conditions for forests of pine, bamboo and eucalyptus making it the perfect area to view an array of wildlife such as parrots and hummingbirds. Climbing down from the mountain heights we reach the beautiful city of Trinidad.

Day 7: Trinidad
Trinidad is one of Cuba's treasures. The town became the centre of the sugar cane boom in the late eighteenth century with large amounts of money invested on ornate colonial buildings, still remaining preserved today. Red-tiled roofs, baroque churches, winding cobblestone streets and excellent museums make this a wonderful city to explore at your own pace. In the morning we make our way on foot and visit one of the fantastic museums revealing an insight into Colonial times.

Day 8: Camaguey
Today is a driving day as we head for Camaguey. En route we travel along the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills). We stop at Sancti Spiritus for a quick look at the older part of the town around Puente Yayabo before continuing on through remarkable savannah and cattle country to Camaguey. There may be time to explore the farmers market by the river upon arrival.

Day 9: Sierra Maestra
Today's drive takes you along the central highway east to Las Tunas before cutting across the plains towards Granma province, an area prized for beef cattle. You continue through stunning lush coffee plantations (which is a major export for Cuba) and green foothills to Bartolomé Maso where we begin our ascent into the Sierra Maestra Mountains.

Day 10: Santiago De Cuba
This mountain region is famous as being Fidel Castro's operational base during the Revolution and this morning you head up to Alto del Naranjo, where a short walking trail brings you to Fidel's original command post or Comandancia de la Plata. The area is rich in forestry and giant ferns so wildlife is abundant, particularly birdlife. From here you make your way to Santiago De Cuba with an orientation tour upon arrival if time allows.

Day 11: Santiago De Cuba
Beginning with a half day tour of the city, the afternoon is free for you to explore. Santiago's centre Parque Céspedes was marked as the place Fidel Castro as the new leader of Cuba delivered his first speech in 1959. You visit the Moncada Barracks, where Fidel seized weapons used to over throw the corrupt Batista regime which sparked a memorable change on Cuba's history forever. The city is rich in history and a wonderful place to explore and absorb. In the evening there is the opportunity to hear some local music, join the locals in some dancing and try a Cuba Libre; a delicious cocktail which has become an institution amongst travellers.

Day 12-13: Baracoa
Departing Santiago you drive through the mountains to Baracoa; an extremely laid back town between two bays. Christopher Columbus first arrived in 1492 and later returned to be married here. There are endless possibilities for day trips, walks or simply relax on the beach a little way up the coast. You can take a full day hike to the anvil-shaped mountain of El Yunque, with a short bus ride to the plantations of coffee, banana and cacao and meet with local farmers. From here walk through thick tropical forests abundant in wildlife to the summit for sensational views of Porto Santo Bay and the Toa and Duaba rivers.

Day 14: Havana
Today you leave the relaxing shores of Baracoa and drive to Santiago * airport in time for a flight back to Havana. This is a travelling day and is dependant on flight departure times which have been known to change at last minute. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel in Havana where we overnight. There is free time to enjoy the last of Cuba's capital city.
