Day 2: Winnipeg to Churchill
Generally, it's an afternoon flight to the Lazy Bear Lodge in Churchill. This renowned family-owned lodge has been handcrafted from local materials, with charming log buildings and decor to match the personal friendly service.
A guide will meet you upon arrival at the Churchill Airport and escort you to Lazy Bear Lodge to enjoy your wonderful accommodations in Manitoba's largest hand-built log building. Feel free to check the bulletin board to see if there are special events during your visit in Churchill. You'll have free time during your trip to explore special places in Churchill like the Eskimo Museum, the Canada Parks Museum as well as unique shops in town where you can also see authentic native art.
On a cultural and heritage tour, visit the historic Cape Merry where the Churchill River spills into the Bay. Here you can take short hikes along the coastline with the group. It is not encouraged to walk alone due to potential issues with bears. Then it's on to the `Polar Bear Jail'. One way the citizens of Churchill care for their Polar Bear friends is to put them in `jail'. When someone spots a Polar Bear too close to town, they call a special phone number, and the bear is humanely trapped and placed in the `Polar Bear Jail' until it can be safely transported back to the wild.
Please note: You will transfer to the airport this afternoon for the flight from Winnipeg to Churchill without assistance from your tour guide. You should arrive at the airport roughly 1.5 hours before your flight, with your flight time being advised during check in to the hotel in Winnipeg. The airport is small so there should be no problem finding everything. You will be met by your tour guide upon arrival to Churchill airport.
Accommodation: Lazy Bear Lodge included | Meals: Breakfast included
Day 3-5: Churchill
Your activities over the next few days are all based on tides and weather conditions. Enjoy the Hudson Bay coastal tour (approx. six to eight hours) with the chance to spot Polar Bear that can be seen swimming in the waters or cooling off on the rocks. There is no need to bring lunch (x1) as it will served on the boat. The Beluga Whale boat tour is your chance to get up close to the magnificent Beluga Whales and a tour of the historic Prince of Wales Fort is an interesting insight into the heritage of the area. Explore the tundra and the various wildlife that live in this fascinating area on a three to four hour Arctic Crawler tundra tour. There'll also be time to add an optional exhilarating dog carting tour or a scenic helicopter flight (optional) over the nearby Hudson Bay and Cape Churchill.
Please note: Lazy Bear Lodge does not have a liquor license so you may wish to bring your own alcohol to be consumed in your room only. There are smaller more rustic bars where you can buy alcohol in Churchill.
Accommodation: Lazy Bear Lodge included | Meals: Breakfast (x3) and dinner (x1) included
Day 6: Churchill to Winnipeg
