Day 3: Lamar Valley

Often referred to as 'America's Serengeti', this is one of the best places to spot wildlife in Yellowstone, so you can rest assured that Lamar Valley will do nothing but amaze. Home to an incredible array of wildlife such as wolves, elk, bison and Bighorn Sheep, you won't even have time to put your camera down. To reach Lamar Valley you must travel down Lamar Road and even on this stretch of road you're likely to encounter all kinds of wildlife and 'Bison Jams' are a regular occurrence. For the first time in more than 70 years wolves have recently been reintroduced to the park and their return to Yellowstone has had a surprising and positive effect. Now the wolves are back the park has seen a decrease in elk, which in turn has stopped the over grazing of the parks grasslands. Today you'll be accompanied by a professional wildlife tracker who has dedicated their lives to working with the parks wildlife (including wolves), so you'll be safe in the knowledge that these guides really know what they are doing. As with most wildlife we can never guarantee sightings, but you can rest assured that you are in good hands when it comes to trying to spot wolves. Later on in the day you'll have the opportunity to jump back in your snowshoes or simply relax next to a log fi re with a warm drink.

Day 4: Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone, the oldest and grandest of the national parks in the USA and home to the lower 48's highest concentration of wildlife. It's the magnificent mountain scenery, abundant wildlife and spectacular geothermal activity that draws people here from all over the world. The road from Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful Snow Lodge is closed to public vehicles so the only way in is by snow-coach or snow-mobile. Included today is a private snow-coach guided tour of Yellowstone National Park on the way to Old Faithful Snow Lodge. The benefit of having a private snow-coach is we can stop at various points of interest and when wildlife are spotted along the way. You will typically arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon. The lodge is situated close to Old Faithful and your tour leader will take you to watch Old Faithful erupt from the belly of the earth.
Accommodation: Old Faithful Snow Lodge | Meals: Paid locally

Day 5: Yellowstone National Park

For the next few days you'll really be able to get to the heart of Yellowstone National Park in the midst of winter. Just because the trails and roads are now covered with snow doesn't mean you'll miss out on experiencing some of the incredible trails that make Yellowstone the popular national park that it is today. An included cross country skiing lesson (equipment provided) will stand you in good stead for navigating your way through this winter wonderland, either as a group or in your free time. After a two hour lesson and once you feel comfortable on your skis, you have the equipment for the entire afternoon and can head off on a trail of your choice.
Accommodation: Old Faithful Snow Lodge | Meals: Paid locally

Day 6: Yellowstone National Park

Today you'll have more time to wander the geothermal pools which make Yellowstone such a unique place, as well as being the reason it was first designated the world's first national park. Don your snow shoes and head out into the wilderness on a three hour guided tour to learn about the area surrounding your lodge, as well as searching for more amazing wildlife. You'll have the snow shoes for the duration of the day so you might like to make the most of what is right outside your front door and take a walk along the boardwalk at the Upper Geyser Basin, or enjoy some time with a warm drink around the lodge.
Accommodation: Old Faithful Snow Lodge | Meals: Paid locally
