Seattle, Washington

Often thought of as a gateway to explore Olympic National Park as well as being the home of coffee and grunge music, Seattle is a quirky, fun city.

Seattle Tours

Seattle ToursAs with most cities in Pacific Northwest USA, Seattle presents a liberal and laid-back approach to life, with plenty of wide open spaces combining a passion for the arts and cultural heritage.

Landmarks such as the Space Needle and Pike Place Market (the home of the original Starbucks), have become recognised throughout the world and if you're talking music then no mention of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Jimi Hendrix can go by without at least a tip to the Emerald City.

As a recognised gateway to Alaska with more than its fair share of parks, lakes and waterfront areas, Seattle certainly gives you the best of all worlds. If you're hoping for weekend walks pre- or post-caffeine fix, then your cup will indeed be overflowing.

Seattle Insider Tips

Daily walking tours
Daily walking tours of Seattle are an excellent means of discovering parts of the city that guide books often omit and with a strict 'pay what you feel' policy to the price, this has got to be one of the best ways to get orientated as you take in the sights. Tour guides are usually extremely enthusiastic and friendly which can often lead to a hilarious and educational experience with everything from markets to coffee houses included within a local knowledge itinerary.
When to go
Thanks to Seattle's proximity to the Pacific it does tend to get a little damp, especially during winter, but if you can picture yourself enjoying the cafés, bookshops and galleries then October through to April is an ideal time to escape the crowds. By the time the summer months of July and August are in full swing you'll find the best of the temperatures and lots of sun.Trips to Seattle in September have little rain, plenty of blue skies and not too many tourists.

Seattle Tour Highlights

The Space Needle
Fans of the TV show Frasier will instantly recognise the Space Needle. Originally constructed for the World's Fair in '62, this observation tower still functions as a tourist attraction. The views from the SkyCity restaurant some 500 feet up are worth the trip.
The Waterfront
As a major seaport Seattle has always held Elliot Bay and the Pacific in extremely high esteem. The waterfront area is the perfect district to explore on a sunny day, with quaint piers and peaceful city parks to be found down by the water's edge.
Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market was the site of the original Starbucks. Antique sellers, fishmongers and family run cafés and restaurants make this quintessential Sunday morning strolling territory and a must for all those who love to browse, shop or simply people-watch.
