Canyonlands National Park, Utah

As you follow the well-worn trails through Canyonlands, you'll find a succession of breath-taking viewpoints where picnic spots and memorable moments go hand in hand. The Mesa Arch at dawn has to be seen to be believed.
Overview

Canyonlands Tours

Canyonlands ToursThanks to the never ending flow of both the Colorado and the Green rivers, the vast area known as Canyonlands National Park will no doubt linger in the memory for years to come.

This is pretty much as surreal and magical a place as you can expect to encounter in the Southwest USA.

Stretching for over 300,000 acres and being split into four distinct districts, Canyonlands holds a wide range of outdoor activities as well as its fascinating features.

Trying your hand at white-water rafting or kayaking is an excellent compliment to any hiking trip. Of course, photographers will be in their absolute element and capturing any one of the red-pink canyons, buttes and river eroded arches will no doubt give you enough subject matter to last a lifetime.

Canyonlands Insider Tips

Chelser Park Loop / Joint Trail
This 11 mile easy day hike regularly tops the bill on our Tour Leaders' favourite hikes in the Southwest. Hiking three miles along this trail brings visitors to a saddle overlooking Chesler Park, a scenic expanse of desert grasses and shrubs surrounded by colourful sandstone spires and mesas. Those who continue their journey on the loop around Chesler will be rewarded with a hike unlike any other in America. The path winds through a series of deep, narrow fractures called the Joint Trail, and encases walkers between Cathedral-like walls.
When to go
Warm and dry with the chance of monsoon-like deluges best describes the summer in the Canyonlands and as such bringing along a pack-o-mac is advisable, especially during July and August. As the park is open all-year-round, visiting in the spring is pretty much the best time if you want to avoid the heat and rowds with March-May considered to be picture perfect with desert flowers starting to appear amongst the rocks. The winter months can get cold with ice and frost underfoot, but catching the park on a crisp, blue sky day in January has to be seen to be believed.
Highlights & Activities

Canyonlands Tour Highlights

Dead Horse Point
As a state park within its own right, Dead Horse Point has become widely known as one of the best vantage points to take in the majesty of Moab. A special spot and certainly a 'must visit' on Canyonlands tours.
Adventure Activities
It's always the way with spectacular landscapes - sometimes walking just isn't enough. Mountain biking, white-water rafting and 4x4 tours allow you not only to go that bit faster, but also give entry to harder to access areas of the park .
