Los Angeles Insider Tips

L.A. Farmers Market
Featuring a wide range of food stalls, local produce and sit-down diners, the Farmers' Market in Los Angeles is nothing less than an institution and well-worth a visit if you're near the Fairfax district. Open every day of the week and offering all manner of menus, including: Asian, Latin American and local specials, this is simply foodie heaven and even if you just want to sit and watch the world go by then this is the place to be. Certified as an Historic-Cultural Monument you'll also discover plenty of titbits of LA's heritage and the displays at Gilmore's Kiosk, Earl's Service Station and the Farmers' Market Clock Tower make for fascinating reading.
When to go
With loads of sunshine and not much rain, it's easy to see why Southwest USA is such a favourable location whatever time of the year you're planning to visit. In the main, January tends to be a more than acceptable 18C whereas August usually comes in around the late 20C mark. Even in December you'll get an average of 7 hours of sunshine a day which is surely enough for anyone, even a surfing Santa. Winter through to spring presents a few rainy days but nothing too heavy. Smog levels during the summer are improving but, worst case scenario, head for the beach if things get too gloomy or too hot.

Los Angeles Tour Highlights

Hollywood Boulevard
With a mind-bending array of landmarks, including: the Chinese Theatre, the Walk of Fame and the Dolby Theatre Hollywood Boulevard is the street that keeps on giving. If you're into your pad Thai and spring rolls then the Boulevard is the place to be.
Santa Monica Mountains
If you fancy seeing LA from a whole new perspective then the parks that fall within the Santa Monica Mountain range offer some much needed natural respite. Hiking, wildlife trails and plenty of scenic peaks make this an absolute haven for nature-lovers.
Beaches come thick and fast in California, and nowhere more so than in sunny Malibu. Stretching for just over 20 miles and promising sand, surf and scenery, Malibu is a haven for affluent locals and you'll discover plenty of opportunities to gawk at the lifestyles of the rich and famous.
Venice Beach Boardwalk
Venice Beach features a promenade that follows the coast for just under three miles, and is home to an eclectic mix of street artists and performers - as well as the odd local character and plenty of beachside cafes thrown-in for good measure.
